Can birth control actually make acne worse?

I know it's supposed to make your acne better, but ever since I started using it ( about a month ago) my acne has just progressively gotten worse. It's not to horribly bad or anything, like it's been worse, but it's still really bad. Has birth control ever had this effect?? Or is it one of those things that gets worse before it gets better?
