To date the most successful method of recovery for alcoholism is the A.A. program. Sure it has its faults. Until something else comes along A.A. is the best.As far as LSD is concerned it has more promising uses for the treatment of schizophrenia. Despite an unshakable association with the 60's, psychotropics (in this case psychedelics) do have clinical uses. Alcoholism however usually affects people with social anxiety, low self-esteem, and/or depression. Evidence of genetic propensity (increased likelihood) of affliction is also gaining ground with new research studies. This explains why counseling and abstinence from ALL drugs work best. There are severe cases that require a short period of medication when the alcoholic first quits. This is done under professional supervision in a recovery facility. Alcohol is the most popular "date rape" drug ever invented and assists thousands of rapists per year. You won't read THAT in a research paper, but stands as indisputable fact. At this time no "magic bullet" exists for recovery. Unfortunately many will die waiting for its invention instead of simply seeking help. Yes, recovery is hard, but it beats dying.
