Before I got pregnant or should I say morning sickness) I worked out 6 days a week. For 10 weeks I was really ill and couldn't go to gym and had trouble walking let alone running. I'm now back at the gym and asked for an assessment. I was booked in with a trainer who I never saw before; she barely looked 18 and had no idea about pregnancy etc. She gave me chest press on a bench amongst other exercises on my back. Luckily I had some knowledge about pressing on the babies blood supply decreasing oxygen by doing exercises on your back. When I told her she said she didn't know and then proceeded to give me other exercises and said do you think that's ok for the baby? Should the trainer have some sort of certification or accreditation for pregnant women such as maternal training before they issue a program like this? I'm from Australia and I know in the US they do but I'm not sure about here. Any websites would be good too. :)

Trust your intuition and her answer- she did not know. You dont want to risk your babys health. Ask at the gym counter to see what is available, or Council Womens Health Centres will have info for maternity health classes.

Ask the gym if any of the personal trainers are mothers. They should have a much better idea of what is safe and appropriate.
