how can I tell if Im having allergies or bronchitis, my chest is so tight, I cough but nothing comes up. I have a history of bronchits an not so much allergies. my throat has a tickle , so im coughing, and my nose is all stuffed up. Ive had these symptoms before and sometimes it was bronchitis and sometimes not. The green mucous would come like 4 days later. Thanks SOB

bronchitis is caused by infection or a cold...where asthma is born issues of the lungs & some when young can grow out of it...my mom did, but you can fix bron with med and cure it where asthma you can treat it but not cure

Unfortunately, you have a mishmash of reported symptoms that cannot help distinguish between asthma and bronchitis. In addition, the fact that you are coughing and have nasal congestion just means you could have post-nasal drip, and the coughing might be making your chest feel tight from fatigue. Green mucous signifies nothing--people with and without infections can both cough of any color mucous. You may not have asthma or bronchitis at all. On the other hand, you might. The only way to tell is to have your doctor do an adequate history, physical exam and possibly some tests. One of the most significant signs is the kind of sounds you have in your lungs while breathing--this can help distinguish between bronchitis, asthma and normal. As always, discuss these and any questions with your doctor.

bronchitis wouldn't cause nasal congestion. it sounds like you've got sinusitis or just plain rhinorrhea from an upper respiratory tract infection, and the throat irritation/coughing is from post-nasal drip. allergic rhinitis can do the same thing.
