Stress...? How do you handle it? How does it affect your life? Do you take medication and does it help you?I am actually on Prozac for depression but recently decided (with doctor's permission) to stop taking it for a while, with the hopes that I may not need it anymore. After some stressful weeks and an incident that was too much like some past abuse I had experienced, I decided that it was time to start the medication again. I also have a friend with severe PTSD, so it's great to hear how others cope. Thanks everybody!

Lots of medication. Available at your local V.A. hospital.

I do not suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder anymore, though I did for about 2 years after a traumatic experience when I was younger. I dealt with it through a few months of counseling, then I was fine.My ex-husband, on the other hand, had severe post traumatic symptoms, including dissociation, caused by several incidents from his childhood. He went for several years of counseling, and was on antidepressant and antipsychotic medications at various times, but nothing helped much. Finally, he was referred to a private clinic located in Morgantown West Virginia, where he received intensive hypnosis therapy and was taught strategies to deal with his dissociation and trauma symptoms. That was the best possible treatment for his case, and really helped him a lot for a period of time. The benefit would have been much more if he had continued with the strategies that they taught him.

I have post traumatic stress... for me its not a huge problem it doesnt really affect my life that much except that i occassionally have flashbacks and hear things that aren't there. I get really afraid every now and then if something triggers it. I consider it a mild annoyance, doesnt really interrupt my life. I'm not on medication for pts, i'm on medication for depression and i can't really tell if it works to be honest, i don't think it really does very much.I'm sure it can be much worse for others, especially if it causes nightmares and sleep problems.
