I was diagnosed with 'a bit of bronchitis' 3 weeks ago, while abroad, I completed 10 day course of augmentin (in case of secondary infection). But still don't feel right, I haven't had a cough, but feeling of general malaise- a bit like the onset of a cold, occasional small amounts of phlegm (bloodied twice) and some discomfort in different areas of back/ ribcage. could it be anything more sinister? i.e. pnuemonia, tb etc?

pneumonia can set in very quickly and if you see blood go back to your doctor, you probably need more antibiotic

Bronchitis is cough and wheezing with a normal chest xray. You typically dont need antibiotics unless you have structural lung disease or persistant symptoms. Bronchitis is treated with an Albuterol inhaler if wheezing and shortness of breath are a problem, particularly in smokers. Smokers may have persistant chest pains and phlegm production oten associated with small amounts of blood. TB is always a possibility particularly depeneding on your exposure during your travel. Pneumonia (either viral or bacterial) will generaly have similar symptoms, sometimes more severe but show by definition a positive chest xray. The main concern for you perhaps would be a pulmonary embolus as most people have imobility during travel that predisposes them to this condition. If you are haveing shortness of breath and pain that is persisitant, go to your local ED and tell them your concern and they can screen you for a pulmonary embolus.

If you are having blood in your phlegm, you need to return to the doctor. Some antibiotics don't work on all things. Just return and tell him/her the new feelings and they should be able to tell with an x-ray what is going on. Good luck.
