Ok, we just took in this stray male golden retreiver about two weeks ago. I have no idea how old he is.He's been doing great, still working on training him to use the bathroom outside. Well, today, he decided to pee in my son's room. I go to clean it up, and there is blood in with his urine. Like, regular urine plus a little blood in the center of the puddle. This is the only time he's done this. He has seemed to have lost some of his energy though. Any ideas? I plan on getting him to the vet in the morning, but I don't know what it could be. Thanks in advance for all your help!

I had a cat with blood in his urine--turned out to be a bladder stone that required surgery. Everything is fine now, but my cat is on a special diet so he doesn't develop new stones. Hope this isn't the problem with your dog. Your vet will be able to help you tomorrow. Good luck!

Urinary tract infections are the most common cause of blood in the urine. The infection may be in the kidneys, bladder, or urethra (the tube through which urine flows). Dogs and cats with urinary tract infections will usually urinate much more often than usual, and they may have fevers as well.In male dogs, blood in the urine may mean that the prostate gland, which produces semen, has become infected. Dogs with an infected prostate gland typically have a swollen penis and testicles, says Paul Gigliotti, D.V.M., a veterinarian in private practice in Mayfield Village, Ohio.Hope this is helpful, and sure it's not much to worry about... You said he was a stray, and changes in the diet, health or aging is a factor as well in mostly any animals.Keep us posted though,Jim
