his allergies? He varies from about 35-40 lbs and we have an appointment to get him a steroid shot from the vet, but he's just so miserable, he woke me up at like 2 in the morning scratching his face!! I just don't want him to suffer until his vet appointment.

You can give him one 25mg tablet. Normally Benadryl comes in 25 mg form but please read he label to be sure.

You can give it up to every four to six hours. The steroids would help more than simple Benadryl, but a large dose of benadryl will do in a pinch.

Call your vet. Don't try to medicate your dog yourself

I have a dog that HAD this problem. I now give her MSM twice a day. You can get the MSM at a health food store. Trust me it works great. We no longer have a itchie dog, and it cleared up her ear problems too. My dog suffers form allergies, once we started to use this product she was a different dog.

Call your vet and ask what they would recommend.I had a pet that I had to have put down because her allergies were so bad, the vet was giving her steroid shot every month, which was killing her.

Never understood why steroids were so lavishly prescribed by the vets. It messes them up big time.Try to find the reasons for your dog "allergies".Usually it is the food. All the best to both of you!!!!

I had a old dog with arthritus and we had to give her medication, so we would wrap the pill in cheese and she never noticed.

My vet said that my 8 pound dog could have 3 - 25 mg. Benedryl a day. She said they metabolize them faster than humans. So, I'd expect a larger dog to be able to take more. I'd just give the vet a call and ask.
