Having done both, I'd say alcohol. It's also harder to get over because it's socially acceptable; people who don't know say "hey, wanna go to the pub for a drink?", whereas very few people say "hey, wanna go find something to shoot up?"

Not sure about opiates........but know it can be life threatening to stop drinking if your body is used to a large amount.editwish you luck berni. They are going to need all the support and care you can give, but the rewards are priceless.

When I was in rehab, they told me alcohol, but I always thought heroin would be the worst! Alcohol is pretty bad, though...and e-v-e-r-y time it got worse & worse. I havent had a drink in 3.5 years cause I'm so afraid of STOPPING!!!

long term alcohol use is the most dangerous to with drawl from,it does some wild things and you could Evan comatose an opiate is easier if in a hospital or treatment centre because they have a way of withdrawing people in there sleep the keep them asleep during the withdrawal so the person doesn't have to have the systems they would awake.

if you are coming off heroin you would say heroin is harder to kick ,and the same with alcohol, but the thing is , opiates i think are more physiologically harder to beat . every day is a battle with heroin abstinence, it"s evil and i wouldn"t wish it upon my worst enemy , it"s true you can go to a private hospital and sleep through most of your withdrawal's, but at 3 grand a pop many people cant afford to take that route , anyway , good luck to anybody who beats any of these evils cause it really is the most difficult thing you are ever gonna encounter , stay safe ......
