I think that is a little extreeme. Just be honest and tell her the truth. You might save yourself a guilt trip and besides you could really mess her up with the cat!

Yeah, that's just being plain mean! Why not sit down and communicate with her and work out the differences instead. Make a compromise on things either you or her don't like or like and live in harmony together. You'll soon realise having a good room-mate beats staying alone
