I'm curious...those of you with babies/toddlers with food allergies (i.e. dairy, soy, etc.) what were the signs/symptoms that clued you in?
I think there are a lot of different reactions. The baby can get a rash or their digestive system may act up, and of course there are more serious symptoms. One family I knew had a baby who was allergic to several formulas. She got colic, diarrhea, and gas. I suggest that you make a note or chart (day, time, and food) of anything that you notice and ask your pediatrician. Don't wait for an appointment if you see a trend, but call in and ask for their advice. Good luck!

Hi,Mine had swollen face when born. After that it became red cheeks with dots almost like a heat rash. ( but it was not hot in the house) Then diarrhea sometimes. Each one was different so I asked doctor. We needed to find out since some shots are cultured in egg yoke. First it was no more soda for me since I nursed him he got what ever I ate. The caffeine was not good for him. later on we did more things. I gave him rice for a day. rice cereal, rice with seasonings, rice bread.ect the next day I gave him egg yokes and no reaction! for dinner he got egg whites and his face became red on cheeks and red dots became more apparent by the next day. ( the red dots dry to a crust ) .After that we were relieved that it was egg whites. We would wait a week and do it again. He had reactions to strawberries, chocolate, peanut butter, egg whites, and citrus if it touched his skin. But there is a difference from ALLERGIC and REACTION. Alot of kids have reactions to foods. Allergic can make them unable to breath, swollen throat, tongue heavy and dry and sleepy. Hives are a pretty good sign too. Hope this helped.
The first sign that my son was allergic to dairy was when he went into anaphylactic shock the first time he tasted a dairy product.
