...collapsing due to heart failure? My older brother is a bit of a health nut. He runs several miles daily, eats healthy, and coaches track and cross-country for his school district. (One of his teams made it to states this year.)This morning while he was out jogging, his heart stopped. The school nurse found him collapsed on the track and gave him CPR. He's currently in the ICU in a drug induced coma. His vitals are strong, a cat scan hasn't revealed any abnormalities, and the doctors think it may have been caused by abnormal heart rhythms. Have ever heard of anything like this?

Unfortunately, it happens every day. I hope and pray that he pulls through. Good luck and God bless you and your family.

I didnt have the coma, but I was 42 when things started happening. Made a decision this week to not have a transplant or even the valve repair/replace.I wasnt a helth freak, but was never sick til this happened. Rode my bike 70-100 miles a week. Hiked from time to time, in the Sierras, and inthe desert, in all weather.Docs figured I got a virus someplace, though all their tests didnt identify one. Now I cant walk 100 yards without gasping for air.

Yeah, it happens. People that appear healthy can have an underlying condition that hasn't been detected which leads to sudden cardiac arrest. Fortunately, they've revived him. My best wishes on his full recovery.

Yes....many people even younger than your brother have had heart attacks. It hits all ages and sometimes the causes are unknown. Being young and fit helps, but sometimes other factors come in to play. They can hit anyone at anytime even if you have no history of heart trouble. Sometimes the cause is only found after the event has occured and may have gone unnoticed during regular checkups for years.

YES! I work on a cardiac floor, where stranger things have happened to younger people.. HEart conditions can start as early as in utero. Luckily there was someone there who was able administer CPR and save your brother.. others are not so lucky. Keep your chin up..
