I don't think it'll harmful but it's pretty harsh and will dry your skin a lot. Try putting fresh cut aloe vera. If you don't have an aloe vera plant you might wanna get one.

i have done the same thing and i would say that astringents -such as biore or a specialized acne treatment product would be more effective
