In almost every occupation where hepatitis C is encountered universal precautions are used which prevent the spread of the disease. There are Hepatitis C positive surgeons and nurses. Current recommendations in the US do not prevent a surgeon from being positive for Hep C and operating.The occupations where you could be exposed to blood and NOT have protection are the ones you would not want to consider. Fortunately, these are rare. The risk in lifeguarding is if you were to be cut rescuing somebody who was bleeding.Most occupational restrictions for blood borne pathogens are for the protection of the professional and not the consumer/customer.Baywatch anybody?
