My dog has a kidney infection & she needs to be put on a diet that has low amounts of protein in high quality.Do you know of a dog food that I could give to her that would fulfill these requirements? My vet has prescription dog foods, but they're really expensive and she suggested that I look around for something cheaper.

The problem isn't high protein, but high phosphorus. Protein is very good for dogs, however, protein sources can be high in phosphorus which is hard on the kidneys. Vets know virtually nothing about nutrition, so be a skeptic of anything they tell you. Avoid the prescription dog foods--they really are no better than the grocery store stuff. Check out the sitewww.dogaware.comfor dietary and nutrition information. This site has a wealth of information on both commercial and homemade diets for dogs with kidney problems, and provides links to other sites. Things like fatty meats and egg whites are really good for your dog as long as she doesn't have late-stage kidney disease. Check out the site. This way you can determine the best course of action for your dog.Good luck, I hope you dog is feeling better soon.
