I broke mine back in '96. I had this "brace" of a thing that was basiclly a harness. It fastened in the back so I had to have someone tighten it for me. My doctor did not put my arm in a sling. The tighter the harness was, the less pain I felt. Also, I felt less pain if I slept in a recliner, than if I slept in my bed. Laying flat on my back really hurt.

If you have a recliner, that is one of the best things you could use to rest and sleep in until your pain goes away. A clavicle fracture is a tough one to heal. Be sure you keep your arm still and your whole hand inside that sling. Even moving your fingers or letting your hand hang out of the sling will cause your shoulder to dip a little more, which will in turn create more pain and it will take longer to heal properly. The key is to keep that shoulder in the proper location your doctor told you to keep it in even when it starts to feel better! Sitting at an upright angle will help with the stress as well as keeping any swelling down. Good luck.
