My dog has always had what my family and I called "boo boos" on his stomach. They are black scabs (mainly from his biting and scratching at them) and tend to produce a rather foul odor when scratched. We took him to the vet. Tried everything. Shots, baths, pills. Nothing seems to be work over an elongated period of time. Recently, according to my dad, his eyes and breath have been smelling. I have noticed that he constantly wreaks despite the fact that we had bathed him the other day. The vet first diagnosed these scabs as allergies, but then later said that they were infected with Staph infection. Here is some background information on my dog. He is a six year old soft coated wheaten terrier named Casey. He was born from a private breeder. Supposedly comes from Ireland. We also have another dog, but these scabs do not appear contagious. Please, can anyone help!?

I am wondering if he has a yeast infection on the skin- it can cause a bad odor. I would also rule out allergies-- did the vet suggest any food changes or do allergy blood testing? we have a few Wheatons at our clinic and the majority have allergies. There can be food and environmental allergies. If the other dog is not showing any symptoms, I would think it is just Casey-- i.e. allergies or infection. Maybe a second opinion is needed?good luck

Next time you bath him put some hydrogyn peroxide in some water, be sure NOT to get it in the dogs Eyes. One cap full per gallon of water. Or take cotton balls full of perox. and dab each spot long enough to see it boil out. Try not to let him lick the plkaces you dab If each spot does boil out when you do this, try doing 2 times a day.

Because I have researched other problems, I have come to the conclusion that skin problems and many other problems stem from our dogs inability to digest grain.Smelly breath also is indicative of a digestive problem and so are the other smells. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.My dog had several problems and when I changed her diet to exclude grain, rice, beef, it's derivatives and dairy food the improvement was unbelievable.I now give her a fish based diet which has beet pulp for fibre. The food is called Fish4dogs, however I live in the UK so you will need to explore the Internet to find something similar.Introduce any new food slowly IT WILL WORK.
