My cat is going NUTS at the moment. This has been happening for weeks now, and I can't understand it. He's maximum 2 years old (we took him in as a stray) and we had him fixed the beginning of December. He keeps biting things, tripping over things, falling down the stairs or the toilet (yes, we now have to put the lid down constantly), chasing me round the house...it's hilarious, but I'm scared to death he's gonna really injure himself! What can I do?!well I know cats can look after themselves, but he's the only one I've ever known who falls off things and instead of landing on his feet, he lands on his back like a beetle. What's a ragdoll cat? Never heard of those before...There are lots of cats in the neighbourhood - he has lots of friends. And I chase him round when he's having a mad one, I'll play with him most days. He's got loads of toys too, but he's more interested in discarded sweet wrappers or bits of foil. Izo - your Bengal sounds wonderful! He must have you in fits!

all cats do this. if they don't they would gain too much weight. Cats are very good about avoiding injury

Sounds like a trip to the vet is in order- this isn't normal behavior (esp the falling down part). I think you are right to be concerned.

do you play with him often? chasing you around the house is a pretty common thing cats will do to try to get you to play with them. biting is common as well, especially when it comes to biting your feet. i would play with him more often and see if that helps. set aside specific times during the day just for that and do it on a routine basis. also, did you change something about your or his routine recently? for example, did you move? is he an outside cat that all of a sudden isn't being let outside anymore? did you just adopt him? my cat is a stray i took in and it took her maybe a month to adjust to her new home. rather than how your cat is acting though, mine was very defensive and fearful and she would meow constantly at the door (i guess because she was used to being outside all the time. i believe her previous owner may have trained her to be an indoor-outdoor cat and to do her business outside). sometimes she would randomly bolt around the house too. the meowing and bolting around the house decreased though when i started playing more often with her. you could try introducing another cat into the home as well to give your cat a playmate.you might want to take her to the vet though just to be sure or maybe just call the vet's office and see what they suggest.updates to my answer in response to your updates:if you chase your cat when he runs around the room, you might be encouraging his behavior without meaning to. like he's seeking your attention and getting it when you react that way. maybe if you ignore him when he does that he won't do it as frequently anymore. as for the sweet wrappers and bits of foil, your cat likes them because the crunching sound that they make reminds him of the outdoors (bugs, grass, twigs, etc. have that sort of sound to them). my cat loves to play with paper balls way more than any other toy ball and i think it's cause of the sound and also because they're lightweight enough that she cat pick them up in her mouth and carry them around. it's good that your playing with your cat most days, but it might help if you set aside a specific time each day that you play with him for a period of at least 15 mins. cats like routine, not change. and are you sure those cats in his neighborhood are friends and not enemies? cats are very territorial and most don't like other cats coming into their turf.as for his tripping over things, he could have been declawed and sometimes when cats have this procedure done to them they loose a lot of their sense of balance. it's because in this procedure part of their toes are removed and cats use their toes for balance kind of like we balance on the balls of our feet. if your cat has been declawed, then i highly suggest you don't let him outside because he can't defend himself like other cats can against dangers.
