Any type of carbohydrate, a minimum of an hour to an hour and half, before hand is a good idea. Follow this with protein after your work out to aid recovery and muscle building

i would suggest eating potatoes. they have good carbs and are cleaner, so they wont make you sick while your working out. pasta is a good source though, i just wouldnt want to eat some before i work out.
