That depends upon the extent of their individual mental disorder. Some people are aware...and some of those seek help. Other, more severely ill people, have no clue that anything is wrong with them. That is what their disease does to them.

Most people don't WANT to believe that they have a mental issue. It's good when you realize it though, because then you can go get the help needed. But until they realize it themselves, people nagging at them won't help at all, because they'll just be in denial, and trying to prove you wrong.

I COMPLETELY believe that there are people who have serious problems and REFUSE to admit it.There was a guy who lived next door who, all he did ...ALL DAY was watch the parking lot. There is a woman at work who, no matter who is talking, always interrupts. If she is not interrupting, then she STANDS there and listens! Those are only the people I know, but the list is endless...ughI think the reason most people don't realize they have mental problems, is becasue they don't 'see' themselves. I am hyperaware of most of the stuff I do, so when I am mean, I KNOW it...when I am rude, I KNOW IT...when I am kind, I know it... some people can't use that inner eye.

I believe folks who deny that their perception of reality and the way they address situations that strongly indicate they are not processing the data accurately, is common. I have experienced that a lot of these people do not recognize their bizarre responses. It's difficult to recognize mental aberration when they cannot perceive it. I believe that bipolar disorder is recognizable by the individual, and I believe that many individuals who have sadistic or masochistic tendencies know it, but schizophrenia, delusion, hallucination, compulsive/obsessive behavior, are among many disorders that require intervention, and in a supportive manner, ask them if there is any thing you can do to support them to seek professional intervention.
