I was overweight for about 6 years but in the past year I lost over 3 stone. I am my normal ideal weight again. The problem is that when I look at myself in the mirror I still see my overweight body. Women and parents say I look slim but I still see my body as overweight. I hate my body so much. I wish I could see my body as it is rather than its past.

its natural for girls to think about their weight like that, never actualy seeing themselves as how they are.. but its time to start telling yourself your being stupid and listen to everybodys compliments

It sounds as if you may have an eating disorder. I would probably check into talking to a therapist if I was you. It couldn't hurt and just might help to put things into perspective. If you can't afford a therapist then maybe try a self hypnosis tape. Something to do with your body- image. This website has a lot of good downloads and they are very affordable. www.hypnosisdownloads.com

first is first: please be sure that the way you lost the weight (and sustain your current weight) is healthy. The only way to maintain a desired weight is to do it healthily. That said,There is actually a mental disorder (i tried to research its name but couldn't find it) that causes one to literally see themselves differently (ie bigger, smaller, etc) in the mirror than they actually are. My friend has this and has been dealing with it as well as working on overcoming it for some time. This is a mental disorder that is DEVELOPED from things such as being discontent with one's looks. It is not genetic or "caught." This means people can get rid of it.My best advice is to see a therapist or psychiatrist. Because the disorder is mental, it is a matter of overcoming it, and having a professional to guide you in this process can be extraordinarily helpful to the way you see yourself, and to your happiness in general.

Get yourself a really nice outfit that makes you look and feel good first. Have a full length photo taken - preferably by a professional photographer who can give you the right pose.Get a couple of smaller prints done - wallet size so you can keep one with you, a couple of slightly larger ones you can stick on your mirror and the fridge door and have a good sized one framed and hang it where you will see it often. The reason for this is 1 The overall cost says "I am worth spending this much money on" it will make it stick and make you think twice about giving up.2 Each time you use your wallet, you'll see the new you. This imprints on your subconscious.3 When you go to the fridge - you see the new you - this helps remind you to watch what you eat etc - 4 The one on the mirror reminds you I AM NOW THIS SIZE and I look DAMN GOOD.5 The framed photo says " I am proud of the way I look and I am worthy of having this photo in a frame on my wall"You see yourself as you were simply because you have seen it that way for such a long time, it is your sub consconsious trying to trick you into going back, you just need to train your brain into seeing yourself as slim and healthy. You can change your mind set with these ideas - seeing photos of the slim, healthy you, will eventually convince you that you ARE that slim and healthy person.

That sounds very like the symptoms of Anorexia which is a VERY serious eating disorder. People have died as a result of it.I would go and see your doctor and tell him/her how you are feeling. Do it now before things get any worse.Good luck to you!

That has to be hard... when you're one way for so long it sometimes comes as a mental shock when you change drastically. I dont really have any advice... but i'm sure in time you'll start seeing yourself as you truly are.:)
