brain related malady but I have noticed that I get in a mental slump around 2 or three in the afternoon and just don't really enjoy that time of day. Anyone experience this or know what causes it? I'm an early to bed early rise kind of person if that helps....I hadn't thought about my routine, that's probably it. I get up early (5:30 or 6)and eat lunch with my son around 12 before his nap. I just wish I had continuous energy instead of bursts here and there. Thanks you've all helped....I think I'll try laying off the coffee and maybe stay up a bit later so I'm not waking up so early. I love morning time though....

Im a late bed. late rise person. Take suppliments and minerals to help boost the energy levels at this time of day, as this is probably the peak of the day for you.

it may have somthing to do with your daily routine. is it possible that there may be somthing else in your day that causes you to act this way? i know that because i eat luch at 11:00 every day, i typically fall asleep in class around noon.

It could be related to sugar intake, when sugar drops, there are a lot of people that get moody. Try changing your diet and see if it makes a difference. It could also be psychological, is there anything that you have to do around that time that you hate doing? In many countries, is traditional to take a nap around that time. People close their businesses, go home, have lunch and take a nap and then go back to their routine. Maybe that is what your body is craving since it sounds like you are a very stick-to-your-routine kind of person. Mood swings can also be related to hormones and hormones imbalances can also be related to what we eat, our bodies themselves (physical, psychological) and our enviroment.Try different things. Our bodies are unique many times and it's just about knowing how our body works and making the best of it (like napping or taking a break, reading or doing something you like when you feel that way).

It is normal! It is a proven scientific fact that that time of day is the worst to sit an exam, or any other test!It is something to do with biorhythms.

A couple potential explanations come to mind. One is your body's circadian rhythm. I believe most everyone has a sluggish time in the afternoon, to varying degrees. I think this "low" is generally about halfway between waking up and going to sleep. This seems like it could be right around when you mention. The second explanation is blood sugar swings following your lunch. Eating will cause blood sugar levels to rise initially, but they will drop again. How soon and how drastically blood sugar levels drop is highly dependent on the type of food eaten. Simple carbohydrates (white bread, refined sugars) cause a very drastic increase and subsequent crash. Plummeting blood sugar levels cause lethargy, which could be what you are experiencing. If your lunches typically consist of simple carbohydrates, you may want to try switching to more whole grains.
