...alcohol use? Why do some people get addicted to alcohol and some don't? Is it that addiction results from excessive alcohol use, but moderate use won't cause addiction? Some people will probably say it's partially genetic. If that's true, is it because addiction results from excessive alcohol use, and genetics makes people more likely to use alcohol excessively? Or would people with a genetic disposition to addiction be much more likely than others to become addicted, even if they drink alcohol much less often?

I don't know that it is genetic, but I do know that it is a disease. It isn't inherited, but the tendency can run in families.

The addiction part will be partly genetic as it will similar to for example allergies...some people have them and some dont. However the actual use of alcohol is more based on the upbringing of the person and their surroundings/situation.

Alcoholism can result from many things. The most common are excessive use of alcohol or aquiring it genetically. People with alcoholism are sort of obsessed with alcohol, and see it as a solution or way out of many problems. People with alcoholism will not always drink more, but drink more often and seem to feel unnerved when they are without it.

Alcoholism is cientiffically proven to be a disease, just like the flu or cancer. Some people are more pre disposed to it than others.
