problems? If someone behaves contrary to the laws of Islam because they have a mental health problem, then what do religious scholars say will happen to them?where does the Qur'an or any Sahih ahadith state that mental health sufferers are to be punsidhed?how is someone to know when they are exempt and when they are not?how is someone to know when they are exempt and when they are not? Does it only apply if the person lacks capacity according to psychiatrists?

If a muslim or anyone for that matter has a mental illness that prevents them from going about there days normally then they need psychiatric help, perhaps even medication when all options have failed. And to my understanding, muslims who are incapable of performing obligatory tasks because of mental illness, are exempt from the tasks and a family member can usually do it for them in their name.

People with mental health problem must be taken care of. No one expect them to obay any rule. Islamic teaching is clear about this too. As long as they have the mental health problem they will not be questioned for paying charity, going to mosques, etc.

People who suffer certain mental health conditions that impact one's ability to reason or to control their behaviour do indeed get special treatment under Islamic law. They are to be treated in a health care situation, not punished. This is according to my limited knowledge. Every time that I come across punishment clauses, however, there always does seem to be an exemption for mental health issues.

Islam have prescription of weak people for those people. One of the main reason of establishing the sharia'a law is to protect them. God ordered muslims to defend those and give thier rights. If anyone have mentall illnesses, he shouldnt get punished at all. If someone have mental retardation, he doesnt accounted at all for his actions.
