After using every type of medication, anti fungal, anti parisite, Ich, on and on I believe that my tank is out of control with tuberculosis. I have fish with no symptoms passing away within 24 hours, I have curved backs, skin ulcers, hollow bellies, pale in color, frayed fins, collapsed fins. The water is perfect nitrites, nitrates, ph, alkalinity, amonia, water is dechlorinated and so on. I have about 8 guppies left with no signs. One algie eater (placostimas -sp?) with a curve in his tail and about 25 baby guppies in the same tank but seperated by an insertable plastic wall. I will go buy Kanamycin but I am conserned about changing the gravel - I read that it can live in the gravel from the feces. Any suggestions about the babies and cleaning the tank?I have not given the fish antibiotics, the store gave me antibateria to "kill off secondary infections". I use a test strip, I know it is not exact but all of the colors are directly in the middle of the prefered range. I took a sample of the water 10 days ago to a pet store and they did a few vial tests on it and said all of my levels are normal. I set up the tank early September so the fish that are dying are store bought. I had about 25-30 guppies in a 55 gallon tank when everything went down hill. I never bought more than 6 fish (usually less) at a time.I called all 5 pet stores in town and not one has the Kanamycin that is recommended...guess I will look online. I am wondering if the medicine will kill anything that may be in the gravel as well as heal/prevent the tuberculosis.Tank is 80 degrees. How do I "humanly euthanize"? Makes me very sad to think about flushing my fish, especially the babies....

Although rare, TB does occur in fish. However, you say that your PH, nitrates, nitrites, etc. is perfect. If you are using antibiotics in your tank, some of these values should be thrown off. For instance, the tetracycline will kill the beneficial bacteria in your tank and your ammonia levels will begin to rise during treatment. Can you provide the values for the following:PHNitritesNitratesAmmoniaWhat temperature do you keep your tank? How big is the tank? How long have you had these fish? Were all the fish born in your tank? Thanks.
