people with mental health issues? I have been having problems with this guy going back to february of this year. first he confonted me and my partner in the town centre and threatened to kill us and racially abused me. the police arrested him, charged him and released him on unconditional bail. he then confronted us again and was charged with intimidating a witness. This time when they arrested him he was charged with 3 offences whilst at the police station because he was calling the female officer on duty all the names under the sun and trashed his cell. He also had a string of other offences he was charged with including criminal damage and affray for a fight he got in down the job centre. They also linked him to several other crimes similar to the one he committed against me, all with a racial element to them. A couple of months later he was sectioned and sent to a secure unit in cambridgeshire and at the time it took 7 male police officers to bring him down. Then I got a letter from the CPS saying they were........discontinuing the case. I was told this is common when people suffer from mental health issues and I was obviously upset but thought that he would be taking medication and I would hear no more from him. then yesterday, out of the blue, 4 months after the case was discontinued he assaulted my partner in the town centre again and threatened to get him and myself "very soon". where do we go from here? is he going to keep getting away with it because he has mental health issues? I cant live like this anymore. I live near the town centre and have to go there every day to go to work, as does my partner and he has to walk back through town at 3:30am every morning and i am terrified, especially as we know he carries knives about with him. the first time he confronted us we saw him with a knife and told the police and they didnt even search him. i am scared to go outside my front door for fear of what he will do nexthas anyone had any similar problems with people with mental health issues? how can i get the cps to take it seriously? last time this happened it affected me badly and i had to take time off work and everything, i dont want to get like that again. the police have said he is "an evil man" and "a nasty piece of work" and they recommended to the cps that he be locked up but the cps discontinued it because he was having treatment. the police were called yesterday when my partner was assaulted and they wouldnt even come and arrest the guy, they say we have to go down the police station today to make a statement and then its up to the officers on duty and whether they feel it is appropriate to arrest him or not. where do i go from here? i cant live like this anymore, please helpi understand he has problems but he's obviously not taking his medication or its not working, and in any case why should i have to live in fear? it seems like my rights are just being ignoredare they going to just wait until he stabs me before they take it seriously? yesterday my partner called the police, i called and my dad called. we went down to the station last night to check it was logged and they could find no trace of any of the calls!is he going to keep getting away with it until he kills someone because of his issues?

Quite common due to many rainy dark days.

Oh Dear..I a very very sorry this is happening to you.I dont really have any advice other than going to the Police again and again. You might try your local Citizens advice Bureau too. Perhaps you might consider getting some pepper spray? I'm not entirely sure its legal in Uk but you should be able to get some if you look around the internet enough. Please be pro-active on this. Dont let this man ruin your life.Good Luck.

Its a difficult situation. Yes, of course people who are a danger to themselves and others should be supervised and not be able to get themselves in a situation they can't cope in. The lack of funding for mental health care is causing a really serious problem. But when do we start punishing people for being ill? I don't see the point in charging someone for something they cannot control - that is not to say that he should be allowed to walk the streets and put people in danger but there are far too many mentally ill people in prison at the moment because we do not have the facilities to care for them.

My ex-boss, he was a Jock, explains it all really.
