My husband had a stress test (treadmill) last week. During the last portion of the test his ears started ringing, profuse perspiration, dizzy, lightheaded and his BP dropped significantly. Also had nothing to eat or drink for the previous 11 hours. Also has had problems with heart spasms. No blockages though.

Significantly=What? When you exercise you utilize energy and produce heat. So no food for 11hours most likely precipitated the dizzy spell and light headedness. His BP probably dropped as a response to an increased temp that couldn't be controlled with perspiration alone and also as a result of acidic metabolites in his blood. Blood vessels dilate in response to high temp and lactic acid buildup around the muscles. So, toward the end of his stress test most of the vessels in his working muscles were wide open thus dropping his overall BP. Think about it like this: you have two hoses with the same amount of water going through them, one is the size of a pencil the other is the size of a coffee can. Which would have the higher pressure? Your hubby's heart was probably pumping as fast as it could so the flow remained constant, as more vessels opened up the pressure went down.

This is a serious problem that should be addressed with his cardiologist and not in this forum. These symptoms cannot be attributed to just not eating. To minimize these concerns may delay proper treatment.Old Doc
