Is there anyone else out there that is a singer and has Acid Reflux disease? I just recently found out that my stomach acid is in some way causing my voice to become very irritated a lot of times which limits the notes I can sing, sometimes. It feels like a stinging sensation in my throat which causes my eyes to water and then I start coughing and/or continuously having to clear my throat. This has become frustrating now since I recently decided to get professional voice training in college a few years ago.Now it takes me longer to warm up, sometimes. I have voice juries for final exams and, especially this very last semester, I was ready to cry because the notes wouldn't come out like they normally would have. My voice was cracking, screechy and very irritated. Mainly, my voice juries are in the morning and that is when my voice is at its worst. Is there something I can do to help with this? I do take medication for my stomach but I'm still having this issue. Any suggestions? Thank u

Prescription Protonix is ideal for reflux symptoms, it reduces the acid content in the stomach very, very well; but, some insurance companies have opted out of paying for Protonix due to the high cost. I switched to Prilosec OTC twice a day and have had great relief of my symptoms! Once the acid rises up your esophagus and into your throat, it causes inflammation, which is the stinging sensation you feel, taking the Prilosec can significantly diminish the acid you feel and may make your singing warm-ups not take as long.Good luck and I hope we hear you on the air someday!
