Another way of making the diagnosis of heart failure is by echocardiography, which is ultra sound imaging of the beating heart. Calculations of the size and ability to contract, and examination of the heart valves can be made wÃ*th this technique. Usually in congestive heart failure the left ventricle (heart chamber) is dilated, and has a reduced contraction. The normal heart ejects around 60% of the blood that fills the left ventricle during each cycle. The failing heart ejects below 40%. The internal diameter of the left heart chamber is usually not over 5,5 cm when its filled the most. In heart failure the value often is 6-7,5 cm. The right side of the heart that pumps blood in to the pulmonary circuit can also suffer in congestive heart failure, and evaluation of the size and function of the right side can be of value. And evaluation of the amount and speed of blood regurgitated from the right main chamber into the right fore chamber (atrium) can give information of the pressure build-up on the right side (backward failure).Hope you can use the information
