rights? I was thinking about it, if we were stranded on a desert island with no type of technology, just the basics, we could somehow develop a system where we could vote, allow freedom of religion, speech, etc. You could get an abortion, but of course it would not at all be safe, you would die or get an infection because the abortion procedures that are used nowadays are not basic, they are highly technical and if abortion was legal 500 years ago, most everyone would die since the procedure would not be safe. MOST people would oppose it. In other words, this "right" is contingent on technology which is not necessary for our other fundamental human rights. What do you feel?

Exactly. And it goes on both ways too: if there was a safe way to take a developping fetus out of a woman and placed into an uncubator, more people would be pro-life.

I do not understand the question.***************************************** ***************************This is a human life.Killing it would be murder.DO NOT do it. Fight to keep the baby.If you really do not want it, find someone that would want a baby and give it to them.I have seen a premature baby at 26 weeks and it was playing with the visa in the incubator and it was very much aware.I will show you one.http://sibbyonline.blogs.com/sibbyonline/images/abortion2201.jpegThis is what happen to this baby when it is abortedhttp://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-3443146938301204329&q=Premature+babyDO NOT allow that to happen. Imagine how much it would suffer.CREED

I think your right, abortion is not necessary.Sure it's because people get raped but your killing a human being you don't want someone taking you off the side of the road and killing you just because they want to.The kid should be treated like a person not someone who's parents made a mistake or got raped they will know how to live their life and they will take care of you, heck they may become a movie star or a doctor. ;)

I feel the abortion is not okay and that "you made your bed you sleep in it" I think that women who have an abortion because it's not the "right" time, should get there tubes tide and forfeit there right to have children later on. Many women can't have children and those who can shouldn't abuse there privilege. And for all the women dieing and getting infections from abortion.. "Karma" baby AND to all the activist out there who say "It's our choice"You had a choice, a choice to use protection or keep it in your pants...

Without technology, child birth would be dangerous as well.EDIT-Why the TDs for stating a fact? *rolls eyes at the silly pro-lifers*Idiots.EDIT-Shivers... I was to be aborted aswell, but that doesn't mean I hate women enough to want to force them through pregnancies.

I think abortion is right in terms of rape and if the mother's life is in danger. As far as the others, I believe that abortion is giving people excuses to have sex and then decide not to have a child they didn't plan. People who have unplanned pregnancies shouldn't be having sex then! There are plenty of free clinics that will provide free condoms and birth control! Abortion is not an excuse and saying that it isn't a living thing before a set amount of time is just an excuse. All cells are living things!

times change, people grow old, we evolve... whats available now yes is different to 500 years ago (even 50 years ago) but thats no reason to reject something.i believe time changes and technology evloves... grow with it!! just because we couldnt do something safely years ago doesnt mean we shouldnt do it now.in 50 or 500 years from now theres again going to be more availabilities than what we have now so just accept it (doesnt mean you have to agree or like it!)

My mother had an abortion three times during the 1980s in a republic of the USSR that was plagued by poverty after the USSR broke apart. She was still able to have me after wards, fortunately. Am I upset that I didn't get to meet or share memories with my potential brothers and sisters? Yeah, sure. But she did the right thing at the time because she would have never been able to support a big family with my father in their current situation, nor would she have been able to move the whole family to North America, like she did with me. Everything has its pros and cons, and people may be stupid, and people may also be smart. It is their decision to make, and it is their right to be informed of the risks, but ultimately, no one can tell you want to do in a Democratic nation if it doesn't break the law.

It's a life, not a choice. I will never understand why people think it's their life,so they should get to decide whether to have an abortion. That is like saying " It's a free country. If I want to go murder somebody down the road, that is my decision."

With or without technology, abortion is a woman's right.

Advanced technology has absolutely nothing to do with the legalization of abortions. As someone up above already said, there has always been abortions throughout history. There will always be abortions so long as incest, rape, poverty, mental and physical illness, and sexual intercourse are around.

Abortion is not a fundamental human right. it deprives the unborn child of life.

You obviously know nothing about history, because women DID have abortions, they used herbs! Almost every form of birth control at that time was an abortive in nature as it would detach the lining of the uterus to make implantation impossible, or simply to remove it early on. Theres no technology there!! Women used WHAT GOD GAVE THEM to control the number of children they had.

I know America doesn't have as many years of hiustroy, but in Great Britain dating back from 100's of years ago and untill the 1940's abortion was illegal but many women either got backstreet abortions which were very dangerous, or even tried to do it themselves such as with a knitting needle or bleach. So yes, even when it wasn't allowed women would still do it. And remember that back then childbirth was extremely unsafe, many women died in childbirth because of the lack of technology so there is a huge risk of death anyway. The factor of choice is very important, a child is a massive commitment and you have the big factor of dying in childbrith anyway withouth advanced medical knowledge

I feel that your point provides further evidence for mine; abortion is NOT a fundamental human right. If we had human rights to begin with, we would have no need for abortion. Abortion is a tragic solution that stems from our LACK of human rights.
