abdomen muscles? Why do people work out their abs, my friend is like obsesses about working out his abs, but when we arm wrestle and stuff he's freekin' weak. He is not really good at any sport but basketball, and he isnt great, he's just better than me cus he's a bit taller but these days Im realli fast so I can drive in on him easily, but anyway, what is the point of working out the abdomen muscles, are there any athletic benefits, Im perfectly fine with my legs and my upper body, biceps, triceps, shoulders, and in the lower body quads and calves, but what is the benefit of working out the abdomen muscles

It depends on how you work them out. If you work them functionally you will be a better athlete, move better. If you are just doing crunches you will just look good when you flex those muscles.

The core muscles are the basis for a lot of benefit.1. Reduce/minimize/prevent back injury by maintaining strong core.2. Helps with all swinging or pivot movements: swinging a bat, throwing a ball, throwing a punch, etc.3. Cosmetically: Better physique: no one cares how big your guns are if you are rockin' a soft belly. I'd take a washboard over boulder-biceps, and believe most girls do as well.

It can be a huge benifit for competitive swimming. That's why I work on mine. Also it may be for looks. All girls like a guy with a 6-pack. Another thing it can help with is runing and jumping
