...Walmart and Longs take? I have a scan of a photograph taken from a book and it is a bitmap file. Can I take it to one of those places and have it print out a decent picture?I have a scan of a photograph taken from a book and it is a bitmap file. Can I take it to one of those places and have it print out a decent picture?**I do have permission, it's from a family genealogy book. The library that holds the materials couldn't find the actual photograph, so they sent me a scan of it on a cd. So, I don't think I can change it to a JPEG.

I can't image they would use anything but JPEGsRe-scan and save the file as a JPEG.While bitmaps files in some cases will work when published on a website, they do not have enough colours to print well.

I would think they use a common standard of jpg or jpeg for all of their pictures. It really depends on what photo program is loaded on their harddrives to make the prints.

The biggest problem with printing out a picture you scanned from a book might be the legality of it. Do you have permission from the artist to copy their work? If not, what you want to do is against the law, and any place that prints it out will be risking a lawsuit. You can change a bmp file to a jpeg. Put the disc in your computer, and bring up the file in MS Paint. Go to file, then save as, then choose jpeg.
