their depression? i know my depression is not completely because of it, but sometimes it feels like diabetes is the backdrop to my life and I can never really NOT be depressed as long as it is there. Does anyone else feel this way? I have had it for 23 years, and I am 26, so I am used to the diabetes, but still.

I have type 2 and have had it for 15 years. I get depressed when I can't keep my sugar levels within reason. I get depressed when I can't eat something yummy that everyone is eating. I stopped to think about it, and sometimes I'm just feeling sorry for myself. When my glucose levels are out of wack, it's because of something I let myself eat. Diabetes is a big part of your life, but it's not your whole life. You can still have kids, you can still love someone, you can still learn about new things, you can still wonder at the whole world God has put before you. You aren't dead. That would really be depressing. Talk to your doctor about depression. Depression can be devastating to you and those who love you. It's real and it's treatable. Life is too short to NOT get help.

How tight is your glucose control? I've had several episodes of major depression over the years, and I find that the physical symptoms of hyperglycemia (sluggishness, general malaise, vague aches & pains) and of hypoglycemia (palpitations, feelings of terror or "unreality", sudden mood swings, etc.) can either exacerbate depression or other anxiety disorders, or can actually be mistaken for mood disorders. The mood swings that come with a rapid drop in blood sugar are usually the symptom that I find most aggravates my subjective feeling of depression, and can be nearly unbearable if I'm actually in a depressive episode. I try to keep blood sugar swings to a minimum, and it really helps.

I get depressed around this time of year because there is such great stuff to eat and I feel i'm limited. I work out a bit more to help out with the BSL and I work out all year

I have had diabetes for 11 years + I had a kidney transplant at the same time I got Diabetes. I have to take pills to help control my depression. I know what you are going through. Hang in there
