and if an infant doesn't have it what are the adverse side effects My doctor put my son on Zantac but he never spit up before he was on it and now he does a little and I asked her about the dairl/soy intolerance and she said that my diet had nothing to do with his runny stools, rash on behind and crying almost all day and till the night but I cut back on dairy and he seems a whole lot better. does anyone have any info and their child that was given Zantac? And what are symptoms of dairy intolerance?

Both of my kids were on Zantac. They never spit up all they did was cry and scream about 20 mins after I would feed them. I cut everything out of my diet, I was living on just dry toast and grits plain. (this was for my first). My second also is lactose intolerant..He is on formula Nutremegen. His problem was he had really runny BMs and just very fussy. It sounds like he may be lactose intolerant or just has colic? My daughter stopped taking the Zantac around 6 months and has had no other problems. My son is only 4 months old. I hope I helped a little.

My daughter has acid reflux. Before taking Zantac she cried all day, which got worse after eating. She spit up frequently, and only ate very small amounts in frequent intervals. With the Zantac, she eats 4oz every 3hrs with no spit-up and is much more content. She has never had any diarrhea or diaper rash. BUT she eats Similac Advance milk-based formula. My oldest daughter had an intolerance to milk-based formulas and was on soy, Isomil. She was VERY fussy, had horrible constipation and spit up a lot. Diarrhea would not be a symptom of acid reflux. This would be more consistent with the symptoms of lactose intolerance. Of course, this would lead to fussiness and the rash from the liquid in the stool. If the changes you have made in your diet have helped, continue to do so! The doctor knows a lot, but Mom spends all day with baby and knows best! At your next appt. discuss the changes you have made and any further concerns. If you feel your physician isn't taking the time to listen to you.......find a new one.

The reason why your doctor went ahead and put the baby on Zantac is because 95% of babies have reflux. I work at a pediatric hospital and do GIs to check for reflux. There is not a baby that we see without reflux so I am sure your baby has it too! Also we have seen some babies be on 3 different reflux medicines at one time and it seems to help some and not help others. The dairy intolerance I do not know about but I belieive your baby has reflux. Remember it can come up the esophagus and not come out, and when it does it burns and bothers the baby.
