Don't this is your first visit, they will only ask you some questions and maybe do an EKG, then they may schedule more testing or lab work... Don't worry, nothing bad will happen.

I had the same problems. My heart would beat really fast or my chest would feel like someone was sittin on me. I freaked out right up to my appointment. I went to the cardiologist and I was told I had an anxiety disorder and I was having small panic attacks. He taught me how to destress and slow down when I felt an attack coming on and perscribed a medication to take as well. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's worth going just to make sure everything's ok. You'll be ok :-)

How old are you. You should try to relax as much as possible and not to stress as it could make the problem worse. There is nothing scarier than NOT knowing if MAYBE you have a medical problem. Your Dad is doing the right thing to help you. They will probably just ask you some questions and listen to your heart with a stethoscope, maybe draw some blood. Then they will determine if they need to do some x-rays or an MRI. I'll say a prayer for you.

Tell dad you don't need a cardiologist, and that your crazy heartbeats are only caused by Stoogie..lol.

My 10 year old has an arrhythmia - it's an irregular heartbeat that doesn't happen all the time, but happens when she or her body are under stress. Her father has one too. My 15 year old has a murmur. She should have outgrown it, but last we checked it was still there. They have each been to a cardiologist more than once for EKG's and echo's - one was just putting little sensors on them (like bandaids with cords) that show on a paper how their heart is beating. The other was like an ultrasound (like they do to see babies in the womb) and was pretty cool, they could see a grainy picture of their hearts beating and the tech even gave my youngest a picture of her heart to take back to school. In both cases the cardiologist said they didn't need to be seen repeatedly by a cardiologist. Just to keep the family Dr's informed and make another appointment if something really changed. I should mention when my 10 year old was sent to the cardiologist it was because they thought there was a hole in her heart. This is not uncommon, but requires surgery. It's usually found in very very young children and would have been noticed at appointments when you were a toddler or younger. Still sometimes they tell you the worst case scenario before they test you! We were concerned, but our Dr helped explain everything that she would go through if it was a hole. Of course, it turned out she didn't have any holes and she's now the basketball player in our household, LOL!So there's nothing you can do but relax, complete some tests, and see what the cardiologist says. It's good you are seeing him because he specializes in hearts and yours is very important! Good Luck and try to relax!!

First, you should relax. Cardiologists are easy doctors to see. There are few invasive procedures to worry about. They will just hook you up to a machine and trace your heart rhythms. You are probably fine, but are driving yourself crazy.

It'll be okay. The tests are easy - not painful. You'll most likely get an ekg, which is just wires attached to you - lasts for about 15 minutes, and perhaps you'll walk on a treadmill. There's medication for irregular heart beats that work super. So, don't worry. All will be fine.
