I know alot of cops who have asthma but make sure you are a good runner and can keep up during formation runs during the academy. The physical agility test does not compare to the running you will be doing in the academy. The military turned you down because they figure you won't be able to keep up during runs or heavy physical activities.
Just make sure you can pass the physical agility test.

once in the police academy one cadet had asthma and couldn't do PT. He had very difficult times, he tried his best but there was nothing we could do for him. As long as you can pass the academy you're good to go with PD. As a paramedic i don't know. Good luck.

I have friends with asthma that have done both. As long as it's controlled with medication and you are able to complete the required physical agility tests for the police.
Most departments don't disqualify you for asthma. I have asthma, and I am on the job. I am not sure what you physical agility test in the dept you are trying to get into, but you still have to make sure you can pass easily. The running only gets worse when you are in the academy. Be ready to do sprints, hills, 10 mile runs, and many other forms of physical activities.

in the navy, it is a different case.. but with having mild asthma, you should be fine in an ems or police dept... i have seen several from both professions over the years that have asthma.. they just carry their inhailer.. and if they are on the ambulance they have a big supply of albuterol!!!
