Almost every case of cervical cancer is caused by infection with the HPV virus. So that is how you would get it although with gardasil your chances have diminished but are not zero. Please continue to ask any sexual partner that you have to use condoms.

I got it through the rape by two guys who carried the HPV and gave it to me.Causing genital warts, which is a major contrubutor to cervical cancer.Smoking also increases the risk. As does a family history.Not having regular pap smears to monitor cell changes dosn't 'cause' cervical cancer but you can miss early changes leading to development of cancer.

Family History, Damage to the cervix eg through childbirth or even misuse of tampons, misuse of controceptive devices (my sister got a cyst in her cervix from skipping her periods too many times while she was on the pill, now she can't give birth naturally and she's 27). It's more than just HPV that causes cervical cancer.
