from heart disease, while 0.7% are from homicide of ALL...? ...kinds, including stabbings, chokings, beatings, and gun violence... 0.7%...Isn't that a pretty compelling case for banning cigarettes and fast food instead of assault weapons? You could save tens of thousands more people by doing that than you could with any further restriction in gun rights. Am I wrong?Story was on CNN last night...Ricky, I agree. Ban none of them, thank-you-very-much. I'm just making the point that maybe the anti-gun crowd is (bad pun coming) shooting at the wrong target if their goal is to save lives.Gem, that last line was hilarious. Thanks!

Banning any of them is an intrusion on my freedom.Freedom means you can make choices. It also means you can make bad choices.

It's not a compelling argument because food and cigarettes don't kill people in one sitting. It takes years for any heart related illness or disease to proliferate. A gun only takes one shot to kill someone. The government is already trying to do things to prevent heart disease by informing the public. They are also raising awareness of what cigarettes do to your health through commercials and larger warning labels. It's up to the public whether or not they want to listen. You just can't ban something especially if it goes against your right to free enterprise (starting your own business). It's not a compelling argument and it's not really feasible to do that, but it does make you a more aware citizen of what's going on in the world. It will make people think.

Is it your position that if you ban fast food then people will just cease to die?
Be nice

We need a mandatory 3 day waiting period or background checks before allowing people to have heart attacks.

Interesting..... so food and cigarettes are premeditated murder vs the instant gratification of illegally utilizing a firearm.

SHEESH!Heart disease is the number 1 killer in the United States. Most people die of heart failure of some sort....whether they smoke or not, whether they have a lousy diet or not.The government needs to keep it's nose out of peoples private lives and stop trying to regulate behavior.....We don't need a "nanny" government.Trust me when I tell you this......EVERYONE dies, and most die of heart failure of some sort.....
