If you smoke that could be the cause of it. So if you do smoke stop for atleast a week or 2. I had bronchitis for about 4 months and have it again for going on 2 months now from not taking my meds and still smoking. Mine got so bad i have to go to the doctor and ER a number of times because i was coughing up blood because my throat was so irritated. So all i know to tell you is take your meds and avoid smoke!

How long on antibiotics? At night, use vicks vapor rub and a humidifier. It can take up to a month after antibiotics to get over bronchitis. Are you having the same problems during the day with the wheezing and coughing up phlegm? Drink lots of water and orange juice. I suggest if it is cold where you are during the night to step outside for a few minutes when you have an uncontrollable cough as this restricts the airway a bit and calms the cough, (same way you would do a baby with croup) it does really work sometimes for awhile to give you some relief. Take your antibiotics faithfully. May try some Vicks 44-D as it is a decongestant and cough med. and you can take that with your antibiotic. I don't know about flying. The altitude change may make cough worse if your not feeling better by then. Call and ask your doctor's nurse. and if maybe you should take an over the counter inhaler with you on the flight just in case. Hope you feel bettter soon.

brochitis can also be caused by a viral infection caused to the upper respiratory tract thus leading to a secondary bacterial infection, the antibiotics your taking are to treat the bacteria, however the virus itself needs to be treated. only way for this is to keep indoors away from anyonw else with colds or flu esp. kids because a form of bronchilolitis is rampant and is very serious to little infants who may catch it! Drink plenty of hot drinks, take some pain relief such as paracetamol (ask your pharacist for advice) for sore throat prob from coughing, plenty of rest before you head off (your so lucky!) maby try some boiling water in a big basin and put a towel over head and breath in all the steam as it will moisten your airways. Hope it helped. Take your full course of antibiotics but after the full course if its not any better consider it may be viral.
