radiation? My friend's wife claims to have cervical cancer, stage 2 (well, it was stage 2 now its supposedly stage 3). Everything that I have read shows that this type of cancer would require major surgery. However, she has simply had about 6 shots of radiation (she does not know the name of the drug, but she says that it's not as harsh as chemo), and she claims she's all better. Is there ANY type of cervical cancer where this would be the treatment? Also, she is not seeing an oncologist, she is only seeing her gynecologist, and he is giving her the shots. Is this possible?? She refuses to let her husband be involved in the doctor visits or conversations, so my concerns are that either there is something else going on, or if her condition is as she says then she is getting woefully inadequate treatment. Thank you in advance for your answers.

How a Gyn is licensed to administer radiation is beyond me. I'm in the radiation therapy business and we don't treat cervical cancer with shots. It's either external to the pelvis and/or internal with HDR or LDR brachytherapy. In any case a Radiation Oncologist is the MD that performs the task, not a Gyn.Something about this story is very wrong.

I had Stage 1B - 2 and I had to have chemo, external radiation treatments and internal radiation treatments. I opted for a hysterectomy as well to reduce the chance of reoccurence or metastisis. What going on with her sounds wierd. As for not wanting her husband involved - I guess that's her choice. As for me, I couldn't have faced all of that without his love and support.I think I would be worried too. Have a talk with her and try to find out exactly what's up.
