It's psychological
People are so used to thinking that the heart literally is where all the love is that it does becomes literal to your mind sooner or later..

It's probably your stomach. The heart and the stomach are connected to the brain through the vargas nerve. Love is the result of a hormone which acts like herion. Infants are sensitized to this hormone in the woumb and then form an association between its effects and the pleasure of filling its stomach at the breast. The infant eventually realizes its food source is more than just a breast and hence, babies begin to experience human affection. As adults, human lovers are surrogate mothers and loosing one's proxy parent might just cause stomach cramps.
