It depends on if it run in you family if that's the case in you 20's if not 40's but always do a monthly self examination

It's never too early to start doing a monthly self breast exam, and your GYN will do them every time you go in for your annual exams. Mammograms will begin probably around age 40, unless your doctor sees a reason to begin them early.

Girls should start doing their monthly breast self exam once they start their period just to get into the routine and to get to know their breasts. They should also have a annual clinical breast exam from the doctor of Ob/Gyn. Mammograms are recommended annually for women over 40.

You don't start getting mammograms until you are in your 40 somethings unless you have a family history. but i started having yearly breast exams in my teens and they always check for lumps then. I guess if they find something they will send us for a test.
