well-known, and raise money for it? I know this doesn't really belong in Gender & Women's studies, but the folks here seem to be much smarter than in the Health section, which is the suggested category.Sigy: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/health/663688.stm

How about starting your own website to raise awareness? many non-profits are dot-org, so maybe you could start something like that.Testimonials, statistics, and links to doctors that can help - if you know people who know those who have suffered or been affected, get in touch with them to see if they can help.I would think there would also be support groups for this kind of thing, or least there is something else you could start.

Lister .. don't worry qbout your question "belonging" here it is a totally legitimate good question!I think that probably public awareness of prostate cancer in the US can be raised with talks on college campuses and with shows on PBS. I don't know how much research money is in cancer research in general but I'm sure that more money can't hurt. You may also want to look at the cancer research that is relevant to more than one type of cancer and the research into treating specific types of cancers. For example maybe some things that we discover about some female cancers can be applied to our knowledge of prostrate canser and vice versa. I'm very sure that this kind of thing is being done now but again..it doesn't hurt to encourage more of this!

This 1) is a place to work for and donate to and 2) shows where men are neglected by our tax dollars. http://www.fightprostatecancer.org/site/DocServer/Prostate_Cancer_Statistics-Funding_for_a_Cure.pdf?docID=203Of course, this is only federal monies... but the large organizations and commercials neglect this issue as well. But, of course, it's primarily a white man's disease... various ethnicity's are vulnerable but Caucasian men get it nearly 10 times more.
