I recently went swimming with someone who had scabies. How bad is it for those in the pool who do not have scabies? Can I catch it?

Possible but really unlikely - unless you were breaking the rules and heavy petting!!!

The scabies mites are easily passed on through close physical contact with an infected person. The mites can live for 72 hours away from the body so it's possible for scabies to be spread through clothing, bedding and towels. You can't catch scabies through sharing cups, plates or cutlery, or from toilet seats or swimming pools.I add a link with details of scabies.http://web.ukonline.co.uk/ruth.livingstone/little/scabies.htmHope this helpsmatador 89

Stay away from people with scabies. Scabies are tiny mites that burrow under your outer layers of skin and cause itching, They are contagious. All people who came in contact with this infected person need to get prescription medication help as soon as possible. All persons who live in the same home should be treated. It can take 4 to 6 weeks before the condition is noticed. All bedding and clothes must be treated. Get help as soon as possible. Good luck.

It is unlikely you will catch scabies from swimming in the same pool as the other person it will be more likely to catch them if you shared towels or were in close physical proximity in the locker room or such. However, it is COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE of the infected to be swimming around with a highly contagious disease.

scabies is highly contagious but not though water. if you get it itsfrom skin contact even briefly. if you get a rash go to the dr asap so that it doesnt spred you will need a special cream to cure it and you will have to steem clean your house and wash your cloths and linnins in hot water.
