one of the drugs for induction of anesthesia causes fasciculation (?spell), where all the muscle fibers discharge energy by contracting and releasing. This can be quiet physical and may make your muscles feel as if you have worked out. it is nothing awful, and will vary from person to person.

not sure of the answer, but looks like the post surgery nurse gave you a pretty good answer to consider.I just wanted to throw in that I just went through surgery (maybe it will help someone), and the anesthesiologist and his nurses was a HUGE part in how things went..so always make sure you have a good one...if that's possible. Can you choose..?Mine came in and spoke to me, told me exactly what he was going to be doing, had his nurse present to make sure she knew what we were doing. Made sure she knew all the questions I asked. Informed me how they monitor the brain waves to know exactly how far under I am at all times, and that if things went well, they would wake me up and all effects of the drug would have worn off.That's exactly how it went. When they woke me up, I never went back to sleep...not even to nap for a minute.They told me to think good thoughts, I was out.They told me to wake up, I was confused fr about 15 seconds, but very much awake.The confusion went away after 15 seconds or so, and everything was great while in his care.I was in what I would rate a VERY poor hospital overall (bad service, bad nurse giving the shots, 14 attempts at trying to get the IV started, etc.), but had an exceptional anesthesiologist and nurses.

It's muscle fasciculations (twitching) caused by a drug called succinylcholine. The muscles twitch before they relax. It's just how the drug works.
