it, suggestions please? Hello, my son is 7 months old, and since he was about 3 or 4 months old, he has had this problem with what I thought was vomitting. I took him several times to his pediatrician about this problem. It seems that, at random times, he will vomit at different times after he's had a bottle, whether it be during a feeding or even a couple of hours after. A lot of times, he will wake from his sleep at night, crying, and then vomit. I've tried to explain how he vomits to his doctor, but he doesn't seem to believe that he is vomitting, that he is just "spitting up". When my son does it, it is quite forceful, even though some of it comes out of his nose (which was what led the doctor to believe that it wasn't projectile vomitting). Apparently, he is otherwise in good health. The pediatrician could not find any other problems at all, so he came to the conclusion that it was acid reflux. Is that what it sounds like? Could it be anything else? Is there anything I can do to help ease his discomfort?I should also mention that there is a lot of it -- usually most of what he drank, so that he becomes hungry almost immediately afterwards. Thanks for your advice! No, unfortunately, his doctor didn't give any other information than that it could be reflux. I assumed that there was nothing else that I could do, since he is just a baby, but now I'm reading about some women who give their babies Mylanta and other things like that, so I don't know. Thanks again for your suggestions!

It soudns liek it MAY be, but reflux to some extent is entirely normal until a child is a full year old. As for what to do to help him I really don't know. My daughter never had that problem and my sons only acts up when his eczema flares or he has problems with hives again.

It sounds like a possibility. A lot of times infants won't even vomit! They will just cry and wake at night. This is due to the acid refluxing back into the middle ear space causing pain. It doesn't sound like a milk allergy because it would have shown itself sooner than 3 months. Some things you can do are to keep him in a semi-upright posistion for 30 mins after feeding. Don't allow him to drink too quickly. Don't pull him up under his arms. Like when you are picking him up, grasp him around his side and legs instead. Obviously avoid a lot of pressure on the belly. You can also look into possibly giving him Mylanta. Find the correct dosage. This will help a lot! Good luck.

if the dr said it was acid reflux then why didnt dr give a script for zantac or something? or changing formula for acid reflux. i think emfamil makes it. cereal also helps keep liquid down.

I have heard that many babies have this problem and it does make sense because so many adults have this too. Did the doctor tell you what to give the baby? I know Gaviscon helps but don't give this without the doctor saying it is alright. I can tell you how much it hurts and the baby is probably in pain and crying. If you don't agree see another pediatrician but it sounds right to me.

sounds like acid reflux... we have a sphincter at the top of our stomach which lets the food in or out.. in babies that part is very immature, thats why they spit up.. When it's VERY undeveloped, it's vomiting. I'm surprised he didn't tell you to put cereal in his bottles, usually they try that for infants with reflux.. try thatyou know, also it could be some kind of intoleration to his formula.. Try Nutramigen, or Allimentrum, they are both hypoallegenic, so after 3 days no vomiting, you've found your asnwer.Ask your doc. to do a barium swallow, your baby will drink this liquid and then have X-ray to see his sphincter. Good Luck!!!P.S : my son was diagnosed with reflux only b/c he was fussing through his feeding, nothing else.. 2 doctors tried to tel me it was his "temper".. then it got so bad, he would only eat 1 oz at a time.. we took him to ER and the doctor on call prescribed Zantac. he's been taking down 7 oz at a time.. Mommys know best.. if you think your child has another problem, trust your instics and see another doctor.one of he 1st doctors he saw, told us to give him mylanta also, but thats for gas, not reflux.. It's got semethicone, which is whats in Mylicon drops.. Enfamil A.R.. is the formula for babies who spit up, it's thickened with starch. But your baby is well established with solids, so cereal in bottle will do same thing.

this is completely normal for babies to do.My daughters did it, the babies i had at my daycare did it.It seems has though they are just spitting up their whole bottle?yup, its just acid reflux.you might have to give him a bottle after because he might get hungry again.just get used to cleaning his sheets and changing his clothes.but this will pass, don't worry

My daughter is 8 months old and has a mild case of acid reflux. the doctor perscribed prevacid but I decided to go a different route. I am taking her to a chiropractor which actually solves the problem of acid reflux not covering up the symptoms as the medicine does. Also look at his diet and yours if you breastfeeding. good luck!!!!

My daughter had that same exact problem when she was a baby (she is 15 months now). We ended up going to the emergency room a couple times because the "spit up" or whatever would come out her nose and stop her breathing. When we went to the emergency room they made me feel like I was over-reacting. Our family doctor seen her, thought it may be acid reflux and decided to do a swallow study and also change formulas (she was on a special formula- Nutramigen). He wasn't satisfied with the swallow study and sent us to the Children's Hospital to see a special pediatric Gastroenterologist. That doctor wasn't concerned about it at all. We seen him a couple times for follow-ups and after a while she just out grew it I guess. The doctor said from the beginning that it isn't uncommon for babies to do this and they will out grow it. Just hang in there with your little guy.

Two of my children had the same problem. It is not vomiting it is spitting up. Most of the time it looked like they spit up everything that they just ate, it was also projectile at times. It also came out of their nose which can be very uncomfortable. He will grow out of it, believe me. My first son was prescribed Zantac for babies, talk to your doctor if you think that he needs it. It is a liquid and you just use a small dropper. It is definitely reflux.
