Yes, it is even worse when trying to photograph dogs...I am working with my camera and a couple different photo programs to correct the issue.

photos? no I have yellow sun burst around my pupils that reflect the flash....don't drink....

OK here is the Skinny- the red eye is caused because in dark situations the the pupils of your Eye are extremely dilated (wide open) so that your retina can get enough light to allow you to see. ( it works like the aperture of a camera, the wider open it is the more light can get in) when you take the picture you send a bright flash of light into the room, and your eyes don't have time to adjust and so it allows lots of light to bounce around inside the Eyeball and it comes out the color red on film or digital sensor. the solution to this is that most cameras have a red eye reduction that works thus. when you press the shutter half way down it will pop the flash lightly a couple of times so that the pupil will contract and then the camera will take the photo with a full flash in most cases reducing the red eye effect (also an efective way that pro photographers use that you might not have the luxury of doing is having the flash at an angle to the face, thus taking out the ability of light hitting the eye at a direct angle)
