DON'T LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO SAY "BAKING SODA". Using baking soda for heartburn is very dangerous. Milk works good to ease the discomfort, also sipping on water helps. Also try eating ice cubes.

Apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon in 8 oz of water, twice a day. I discovered this on Yahoo Answers 3 months ago and it has stopped my heartburn. I recommend buying Bragg brand since it is going into the body. Store brands are cheaper, but I'm not sure I would trust them for internal use. Bragg ACV can be purchased at health food stores. Try it; it really works!! It took a while to get used to the taste, but I'd rather have the taste than the heartburn!!

DGL (chewable OR capsules), a natural, safe product available in vitamin or health food stores.I take one cap in AM and one in PM. I have acid refux/GERD, along with a hiatal hernia. Bottom line is mine was unmanageable without meds. DGL really works!I used to take Prilosec OTC (prescribed by a GI doc) and weaned myself off since it suppresses acid production. The acid is needed for digestion and this drug doesn't allow absorbtion of vital nutrients and vitamins, long term effects are unknown.NOTE: They say the chewable works faster, but I use a capsule taken with water.

Try chewing licorice before meals and at bedtime. Also your diet, chocolate, acidic beverages, carbonated drinks and alcohol can cause heartburn.

Taking vinegar for acid reflux is moronic. You must determine the root cause of your problem. It can be a weak Lower esophageal sphinctor muscle, very common. Or it can be a hiatal hernia. A barium swallow x-ray can see a hernia. If you choose not to be examined then follow the very logical rules for controlling reflux. First is weight, weight loss greatly helps this and I can attest to this. Second are the foods you are eating, stay away from acid foods like vinegar, salsa, tomatos, orange juice... coffee and more. Do not wear tight fitting pants that squeeze your abdomen, do not eat 2hrs prior to bed. Short of this go to a doctor if it does not help. You can also take natural prilosec.

Short term - You can use 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of honey in an 8 oz. glass of water. This will turn your stomach contents from acid to alkaline and will stop the acid reflux.Long term - You need to change your diet. Diets high in fat and sugars will cause acid reflux. You need to find fats like Sesame oil and corn oil that are monosaturated and are easily digestible in the human body. Sugar tastes good, but it's not really good for you. When we talk about what we do with carbs, calories or sugar, we talk about it burning. That in itself should tell you something about the nature of refined sugars and what they do to the body. If you want something sweet, eat fruit, but eat it sparingly. In the long run, a diet change will help your body to heal itself and you won't have problems with acid reflux anymore. By the way, you can also get a bottle of chlorophyll from your nearest health food store. It will settle your stomach and also turn your body from acid to alkaline. I use both, but apple cider vinegar is so much cheaper and it works great!Hope this helps. Best of luck.

I used Baking Soda as a short term cure.To finally get rid of it I used mastic gum.Life enhancement makes a product called Bye-lori and it has mastic gum. Mastic gum kills H. Pylori which has been linked to heart burn and stomach ulcers. Studies have been done on the effectiveness of mastic gum on H. Pylori. It worked for me.Also heart burn can cause mild acidosis. Buy Calcium supplements. Preferably ones with magnesium and vitamin D, which are needed for your body to absorb the calcium. I find if I chew the calcium tablets some, it helps.Hope that helps.

You can reduce the severity and frequency of your attacks through proper food selection. You need to eat foods that are more alkaline based. Hence foods that are acidic such as oranges, red meats, processed foods, fried foods are out. Replace with more green vegetables, fish, watermelon, etc.

Well, I just know that chewing dried papaya (or enzyme tablets) seems to help my digestion tremendously. And definitely cut-out any carbonation! Take care, ~N

There is a product called Acid Ease that contains licorice etc. that may help. But you need to address the reasons you have reflux. Do you eat or drink dairy? Chew your food properly? Have you noticed that there are any foods that trigger it? Do you constantly replenish your gut flora (plain (no sugar) soy yogurt (if dairy does bother you), kombucha tea or sauerkraut/kimchee (if your tummy can take them) all have beneficial bacteria).

I'm not a doctor, but eating plain white bread just after it starts helps settle the stomach and clears the passage way. 1/2 hour later, I drink some ginger tea to settle my stomach. Some people have success with milk, but it never worked for me.
