Do I have meningitis?I had a really high fever and a very bad headache two weeks ago. I felt I was going to die, but I recovered and didn't visist a doctor. Now, two weeks later, my throat is sore; I have a mild headache. I had a fever. I threw up 7 times during the night. I was nauseous. My dad's taking me to a doctor today; however, I really want to know if I have meningitis. because my parents and my sister could catch it from me. Do we have to all go to a doctor?By the way, I am recovering again, yet I'm not taking a risk. My neck is A BIT stiff.I was a bit drowsy. I don't remember dislike of bright lights, though I wasn't really exposed to any.

As a person who has had meningitis, it seems that you do have the same symptoms that I had: flu-like sypmtoms, vomiting, and severe headache. I bet you can't sit without getting a headache either, can you?As far as whether or not your whole family should be tested, that would be up to your doctor. However, I can tell you what to expect when you go. Your doctor will have to take a spinal tap to test for meningitis. It is an uncomfortable procedure, but it doesn't take long. He will test for both viral and bacterial meningitis. Hopefully, you'll just have viral meningitis and the treatment for that is lots of rest and pain relievers (like ibuprofin or vicadin) for your headache. You will be advised to stay off your feet for a while until your headaches subside. That will usually take a few days. Bacterial meningitis if far worse and will require a hospital stay. They treat that with antibiotics and they will have to monitor you to make sure everything goes okay.Be sure to let your doctor know about your sypmtoms from 2 weeks ago. Because if you didn't go to the doctor last time, you could definately be having a relapse.
