professional help, please!)? I hgave done many researches and tried many products. I have acne problem that is pass down from my mom's genetic. I have tried many acen treatment, Oxy, Neutrogena, Krystelle, etc... and none is working. The I finally try Proactiv. I am using it for 2 years and still have pimples. Proactiv helps clean up big pimples on my face and clear up very fast, but my face still continuely breakout. I keep using it because my face would be worst without it. It happens to my younger brother when he gave up using acne treatment and now he has dark red pimples all over his face. During summer, I have less breakout than school time and I force myself to drink lots of water. Currently my skin problem is that I have many whiteheads and many papules and/or pustules (it's like rarely can see it unless you get close; very tiny; some like white or clear, some like light red; and feels like sand or salt on the surface of my skin) These are all over my face especially my forehead and cheeks.I went to see my doctor before and she gave me some pills and Benzoyl Peroxide 10% acne gel. My mom tells me not to use the pills because it might weaken my immune system once I grow older and she scares of the side effect from the pills. I tried the acne gel but it's not working. SO I am still using Proactiv.

Your Dermatologist probably gave you Tetracycline,(which comes in many different brand names) which is in fact an antibiotic. I can see you mothers concern but you need to clear up your acne and Tetracycline is a VERY effective treatment. Acne is a bacteria and the antibiotic needs to be used to reduce it and stop inflammation. You can use it along with the Benzoyl Peroxide and Proactive. Some people need to take the antibiotic for a few months others longer. please ask you mother again to have your prescription filled....you may ask your dermatologist to explain the necessity of the pills again to your mother too. It WILL NOT weaken your immune system! You also might want to check out the link (ask your mom to read it as well), it has lots of info about acne.

try looking at your diet. cut out all fatty foods, and eat plenty of veg- no more burgers and chips, and plenty of excersise.and plenty of sleep. keep your skin clean and just do the clense, tone and moisturise bit, and see what happens.if you are a teenager it could just be hormones as your body changes and you could grow out of it. go back to your doc and ask again about the pills and side affects- surely he wouldnt give you something that could harm you. take your mum with you so she could explain her worries. good luck

Sometimes , it is hereditary. Drink plenty of water and exercise a lot. Lime juice, tomato slices, home made packs can be used for treating acne. You can find more cheap, effective and natural home remedies for pimples at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/acne.html

Sometimes acne just gets bad, and no matter what you try, nothing works 100% of the time, nor for everyone. The whiteheads are due to a bacterial overgrowth of the staph bacteria that are normally on the surface of the skin. In your case they have gotten a serious hold on your pores, which is why you have so many of them. The Proactive can help, but for the best results sometimes you have to use all three of the system products, rather than just one. The fact that your skin improves in the summer is due to the increased exposure to sunlight, which is known to help with skin healing. You might also have some improvement using steam facials, maybe even every other day, until things get better. You don't need anything fancy to do it, just a pot of steamy hot water and a bath towel. You throw the towel over your head and let it drape over your shoulders. Hold it out over the steam to direct it in towards your face, and get your face nice and steamed and sweaty. That will encourage the pores to open, and the whiteheads to drain themselves. After the steam quits wafting up, you can then wipe down the face with some cool witch hazel. It's the major active ingredient in most facial washes anyway, and has both antiseptic and soothing properties, which will be good for your skin. You didn't say what the medication was the doctor prescribed, but I'm wondering if it might be an antibiotic since your mom is concerned. Sometimes the doctors do prescribe a low dosage antibiotic to help get the bacteria back under control and it does help. Another drug you might ask about is Isotretinoin, which will help shrink the oil glands so they produce less oil- or sebum, technically. That cuts down on breakouts as well, but it is a serious drug they prefer to use only on the most serious cases, and primarily for adults. I've found benzyl peroxide doesn't do good when it's applied to the entire face, since it dries out healthy clear skin as well as the pimples, and dry skin breaks out just as badly as the oily skin. It's better used directly on the spots. My eldest son had some serious acne for a while, that nothing seemed to help as well, so I understand your frustrations. We used the Proactiv, steam facials, witch hazel and a product called tea tree oil. That stinks, honestly, but it also works well. A drop on the spot at bedtime would make some just go away, and seemed to keep the others down to a livable size at least- not the huge super zits he got before. I don't know if you would be able to use it right after using the Proactive, some docs prefer you not to use other topical treatments while you are using the Proactive, so I'd recommend asking the doc first about that. My son did improve as he got older, though, and by the time he was 18 or so, it was down to a couple spots a month, as opposed to per day when he was 15-16. I'd at least give the medication the doctor prescribed a try first, you never know what combo may work for you until you do try. It won't make anything worse, at least, and could be the thing that does it for you. I wish you luck, and I'm sorry I have nothing better to offer you except hope and my experience.

You said that during the summer you have less acne? Perhaps you're too stressed out during the school year. Also try looking at what you eat. Try out a few different foods and see what happens. I would also suggest taking everything your doctor prescribed for you. Good luck!

Since I don't have insurance I had to find a remedy for the same sort of problem myself.I am 35 and just recently developed acne...I think hormonal changes are to blame. I found that every acne product I used made it worse. I tried Proactiv...no help. Nothing with "Acne Free" and the acne soaps or cleaning pads caused break-outs even worse. Here's what I found that worked. A friend suggested using Tea Tree Oil. It is a natural remedy for acne (among many other uses). It's a natural anti-microbial so it will kill the bacteria causing your acne. I use it once a day before I go to bed. My friend bought be a tiny bottle off the internet for $5. By the looks of it, it'll last me 6 months to a year of daily use. I only use 2-3 drops on a cotton pad.In the morning you will feel a tad oily on the skin, but it's not too bad really. Therefore, in the morning I use Witch Hazel to reclean my face. Witch Hazel is also a natural product which cleans your face like alcohol, but without the drying effect. It's also a toner and astringent. I have currently used this treatment for 2 weeks and no more break-outs! You can find Witch Hazel at any drug store for about $1.50Another important change I made was to keep my hands OFF MY FACE. Your fingers are very dirty and they can worsen the problem. This is a tricky habit to break because, as I know from experience, you use your hands to cover the acne. And picking the acne makes them worse and spreads the bacteria...another tough habit to break. You sound like me. The acne treatments (Oxy, Neutrogena, etc.) are making it worse. Perhaps the natural remedy is the way to go for you, too, if you have sensitive skin. Just make sure you don't have allergies to Witch Hazel or Tea Tree Oil. They are both derived from plants so there is always that possibility.Try this before seeing a dermatologist. It may save you a BUNDLE!

acne here too and using proactive to keep it under control, but i know that tetracycline or doxyscyline works wonders. I just hate taking it becuause i get yeast infections , so i avoid taking it and i know i should.steriods weakens your immune system. (use that for my psoriasis unfortunatly) and i notice when i am using the cream i get sick more often weird ha?so tetracycline works wonders. the only time my skin is really clear. so use it. do reasearch and bring yoru mom with you to your visits so she can become informed. so sorry you have acne. :( its not nice at ALL.

Hi there.I know exactly how you feel! My acne is also genetic. I've tried everything in the book including proactiv, neutrogena, Dr. Throwers, oxy, zapzit, zap it and the list goes on and on! Some of these products have been effective for me but I found that when I stop using them the acne returns. Apart from that it seems as though my skins becomes immune to the effective products after i stop using them for long periods of time. I have recently started drinking lots of water which is helping somewhat. I am also going to try this African black soap that I heard about, which I got today by the way. Sometimes my acne is severe and sometimes it isn't. I also have body acne. I'm reading alot about exfoliating so I'm going to give that a try. I've found that treatment depends on the person. For my mother Mary Kay products cleared her up really well. You can't even tell she ever had acne but my skin on the other hand does not react to the Mary Kay products. Trust me, you are not alone. Do some internet research and find the products that works best for you, and take this advice, don't stop using it!
